The number of participants in the early voting for the US presidential election exceeds 90 million

More than 90 million Americans cast their votes in the US presidential election, according to the count today, Saturday, October 31, from the US Election Project at the University of Florida, paving the way for the highest participation in more than 100 years.

The record-breaking pace of about 65 percent of total turnout in 2016 reflects the intense interest in the vote as incumbent Republican President Donald Trump faces Democratic nominee Joe Biden, former vice president.

And a large number voted by mail or at early polling sites amid fears of contracting the Coronavirus in crowded polling places on Election Day.

Trump lags Biden in nationwide opinion polls, amid criticism of his administration's handling of "Covid-19", which has killed nearly 229,000 in the United States, while the number of new daily infections has again set a record as Election Day approaches.

Democrats have a big advantage in early voting because of their adoption of the mail vote, which Republicans have cast in the past in large numbers but have shied away from it amid Trump's repeated and baseless attacks as he says the system is vulnerable to widespread fraud.
